The Detroit Lions are members of the North Division of the NFC in the NFL, and play their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit.Originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and called the Portsmouth Spartans, the Detroit Lions formally joined the NFL on July 12, 1930 and began play in the 1930 season. At one time,the Detroit Lions were one of the most feared teams in the league.They won their first NFL title in 1935--only their second year playing in Detroit.
